DO NOT perform fuel system checks, inspecions, or maintenance while smoking or near

fire, flames, or sparks. Fuel may ignite, causing damage to equipment and injury or death
to personnel.
Allow engine to cool off before performing maintenance on fuel lines. Hot metal parts can
cause severe burns. Wear eye, hand, and skin protection when working with heated parts.
Wear fuel resistant gloves and eye protection when handling fuels. If exposed to fuel,
promptly wash exposed skin and change fuel-soaked clothing. Failure to follow these
warnings may result in injury or death to personnel, or damage to equipment.
1. Check for water in primary fuel filter/water separator bowl (Figure 5, Item 1).
a. If contaminated, drain fuel/water separator (TM 5-2410-241-10).
b. If not contaminated, proceed to step 2.
2. Position sample container under fuel tank drain hose (Figure 6, Item 1).
3. Slowly open fuel tank drain valve (Figure 6, Item 2) to allow a sample of fuel to drain into suitable, clean
container.
