WARN I N G
Lubricating/hydraulic oils used in performance of maintenance can be very slippery.
Immediately wipe up any spills. Failure to follow this warning may result in injury to
personnel.
N OT E
Install piston, seals, and rings as noted during removal.
1. Install new bearing (Figure 3, Item 8) and new retaining ring (Figure 3, Item 18) on cylinder housing (Figure 3,
Item 7).
2. Install new bearing (Figure 3, Item 12) and new retaining ring (Figure 3, Item 14) on rod (Figure 3, Item 13).
3. Install new ring (Figure 3, Item 1) and new seal (Figure 3, Item 2) on piston (Figure 3, Item 10).
4. Apply lubricating oil on lips of seal (Figure 3, Item 2).
5. Install new backup ring (Figure 3, Item 16), two new O-ring seals (Figure 3, Items 17 and 15), new wear ring
(Figure 3, Item 3), new buffer seal (Figure 3, Item 4), and new U-cup seal (Figure 3, Item 5) on head (Figure 3,
Item 11).

Use caution when using adhesives and sealants. Prolonged inhalation of vapors can
cause lung irritation. Contact with skin can cause dermatitis. Wear gloves and safety
goggles and use product in a well-ventilated area away from open flame. If ingested, keep
individual calm and seek medical attention. DO NOT induce vomiting. If contact with skin
or eyes is made, flush thoroughly with water. Dispose of cleanup rags IAW local policy and
ordinances. Failure to follow this warning may cause injury to personnel.
C AU T I O N
Do not let sealing compound contact seal. Failure to follow this caution may result in
equipment damage.
6. Apply sealing compound on outer metal ring groove of new wiper seal (Figure 3, Item 6).
7. Install new wiper seal (Figure 3, Item 6) on head (Figure 3, Item 11).
8. Apply lubricating oil on two O-ring seals (Figure 3, Items 17 and 15), lips of buffer seal (Figure 3, Item 4), U-cup
seal (Figure 3, Item 5), and wiper seal (Figure 3, Item 6).
9. Install head (Figure 3, Item 11) and piston (Figure 3, Item 10) on rod (Figure 3, Item 13).
10. Apply lubricating oil on threads of new locknut (Figure 3, Item 9) and install locknut on rod (Figure 3, Item 13).
11. Tighten locknut (Figure 3, Item 9) to 1,180 120 lb-ft (1,600 160 N m).
12. Apply grease on threads of head (Figure 3, Item 11).
13. Install rod (Figure 3, Item 13) and head (Figure 3, Item 11) on cylinder housing (Figure 3, Item 7).
14. Tighten head (Figure 3, Item 11) to 440 100 lb-ft (600 130 N m).
