3. Measuring DC Voltage.
a. Select VOLTS DC.
b. Select highest VOLTAGE range or a range that is higher than volts to be measured.
c.
Connect red probe to positive (+) pin and black probe to negative (-) pin.
d. Observe readout as DC voltage in circuit being tested.
4. Measuring Frequency/Duty Cycle.
a. Select applicable VOLTS AC or DC.
b. Press the hertz/percent button once for hertz and twice for duty cycle.
c.
Connect red probe to circuit being tested and black probe to low reference circuit, ground circuit, or
machine ground.
d. Observe readout; values are represented in percent.

1. Inspecting Relays.
a. Check for bent or damaged pins.
b. Check for burned or damaged relay case.
2. Testing Relays.
N OT E
When testing relays, always refer to the circuit diagram printed or stamped on relay case.
A 9V battery also may be used to actuate relay.
a. Using a multimeter, check for continuity across relay coil.
b. Using a multimeter, check that normally open contacts are open and normally closed contacts are shorted
within relay.
