LEAK TEST
000263
N OT E
If service work is required on air conditionin (A/C) system, refrigerant must be recovered
g
first before components are removed.
A/C system must contain at least 0.88 lb (0.4 kg) of refrigerant. Manifold gauge set can
determine if pressure exists in A/C system.
Leaks in high side of A/C system are more easily found if A/C is operated for 5 to 10
minutes. Leak test must be performed immediately after unit is turned off. Leak test for
high side needs to be performed before pressure in A/C system equalizes.
Leaks in low side of A/C system are more easily found if A/C has been shut off for 5 to 10
minutes. Leak test for low side needs to be performed before pressure in A/C system
equalizes.
1. Move leak detector sensor tip along possible leak points at rate of 1 in. (25 mm) per second.
2. Leak detector will indicate if leak is present in A/C system.
