6. Crossover Relief Valve Description
The crossover relief valve (reel out) (Figure 20, Item 1) and crossover relief valve (reel in) (Figure 20, Item 7)
perform two functions within the piston pump. First, the crossover relief valve operates as a makeup valve to
provide makeup oil to the drive loop for any oil leakage within the system. It also provides makeup oil for oil flow
through the piston motor flushing valve. Secondly, the crossover relief valve absorbs the shock of pressure spikes
within the system.
7. Makeup Valve Operation
When oil pressure in the passage (Figure 20, Item 6) and force of the spring (Figure 20, Item 2) is less than the
charge oil pressure in the passage (Figure 20, Item 4), charge oil pressure forces the valve cartridge (Figure 20,
Item 3) upward. Charge oil then flows from the passage (Figure 20, Item 5) through the passage (Figure 20, Item 4)
past the valve cartridge (Figure 20, Item 3) through the passage (Figure 20, Item 6) back to the drive loop.
