ENGINE VALVE LASH INSPECT/ ADJUST CONTINUED

Ensure valve bridge (Figure 3, Item 5) does not tilt while measuring valve lash. Cylinder 6
shown for clarity.
3. Insert feeler gauge (Figure 3, Item 1) between rocker arm (Figure 3, Item 2) and valve bridge (Figure 3, Item 5)
for corresponding inlet valves and exhaust valves (Figure 2). Valve lash should be 0.0138 0.0020 in. (0.35
0.05 mm).
4. Complete sequence of checks according to Table 1 until all cylinders have been checked.
a. Valve lash OK - install valve mechanism cover (WP 0104).
b. Valve lash less than specified value - Adjust valve lash. Refer to Valve Lash Adjust in this work package.
c.
Valve lash more than specified value - Adjust valve lash. Refer to Valve Lash Adjust in this work package.
Valve Lash Adjust

1. Loosen valve adjustment screw locknut (Figure 3, Item 4) on adjustment screw (Figure 3, Item 3).
2. Measure valve lash between rocker arm (Figure 3, Item 2) and valve bridge (Figure 3, Item 5). Clearance
should be 0.0138 0.0020 in. (0.35 0.05 mm).
3. Hold valve adjustment screw locknut (Figure 3, Item 4) and turn adjustment screw (Figure 3, Item 3) until
correct specification is achieved.
4. Hold valve adjustment screw (Figure 3, Item 3) and tighten valve adjustment screw locknut (Figure 3, Item 4).
5. Complete sequence of checks according to Table 1 until all cylinders have been adjusted.
6. Install valve mechanism cover (WP 0104).
