HIGH LEAK-OFF OF FUEL INJECTOR
00026
There are six fuel injectors mounted on the cylinder head. Fuel injectors are electro-mechanical devices. High-
pressure fuel is continuously available to each injector. The engine Electronic Control Module (ECM) determines
the correct time and duration to activate each injector.
Accelerated wear on delivery valve of a fuel injector results in increased fuel leak rate. High pressure pump cannot
generate enough fuel flow or volume in order to compensate for leak-off rates above a critical value of 1.3 oz. (38
mL) per 30 seconds of cranking at a speed of 150 rpm. If engine cranks, but does not start, perform Engine Cranks
But Will Not Start in WP 0019. If this procedure does not solve a problem, perform this test procedure to assess
condition of fuel leak-off system. Test may be conducted while engine is cranking or running. Refer to WP 0003 for
detailed description of fuel system.
C AU T I O N
Wipe area clean around fuel hoses and tubes. Contamination of fuel system could result
in premature failure.
N OT E
Cap fuel tubes and fittings.
Tag and note routing of fuel tubes to aid installation.
1. Remove fluid passage bolt (Figure 7, Item 4), washer (Figure 7, Item 5), fuel tube (Figure 7, Item 3), and
washer (Figure 7, Item 2) from fuel injector pump (Figure 7, Item 1).
