TURBOCHARGER INSPECTION CONTINUED
Compressor and Compressor Housing Inspection
00028
1. Remove turbocharger from machine (WP 0079).
2. Inspect compressor housing (Figure 6, Item 1) for damage. Replace turbocharger (WP 0079) if damage affects
operation.
3. Inspect compressor (Figure 6, Item 2) for damage from a foreign object. If there is damage, determine source
of foreign object. Replace turbocharger (WP 0079).
4. Rotate compressor (Figure 6, Item 2) by hand. Push assembly sideways while rotating compressor (Figure 6,
Item 2). Assembly should turn freely and compressor (Figure 6, Item 2) should not rub compressor housing
(Figure 6, Item 1). Replace turbocharger (WP 0079) if condition is found.
5. Inspect compressor (Figure 6, Item 2) and compressor housing (Figure 6, Item 1) for oil leakage. Oil leak from
compressor (Figure 6, Item 2) may deposit oil in aftercooler. If oil is found in aftercooler, drain and clean
aftercooler.
a. Check engine for correct oil level and oil type in crankcase (TM 5-2410-240-10).
b. Inspect engine crankcase breather. Refer to Air Inlet and Exhaust System Inspection in this work package.
c.
If steps 1 through 5 did not reveal source of oil leakage, turbocharger has internal damage. Replace
turbocharger (WP 0079).
