C AU T I O N
Do not install crankshaft rear seal without plastic sleeve. Seal damage and oil leakage
may result.
Do not lubricate crankshaft rear seal or crankshaft flange. Crankshaft rear seal must be
installed dry or oil leakage may result.
N OT E
Replacement crankshaft rear seal includes plastic sleeve, which protects seal lip during
installation. Do not remove plastic sleeve, it will be forced off during installation.
Ensure crankshaft flange is clean, dry, and free from damage.
Ensure mating surface of cylinder block is clean and dry.
Ensure plastic sleeve is squarely installed within new crankshaft rear seal.
Ensure oil pan is in place to aid alignment of rear housing assembly.
1. Place rear housing assembly (Figure 2, Item 2) over crankshaft flange (Figure 2, Item 1) and align dowel
(Figure 2, Item 7) with alignment hole (Figure 2, Item 6). Ensure plastic sleeve (Figure 2, Item 3) engages
crankshaft flange.
2. Push rear housing assembly (Figure 2, Item 2) squarely onto crankshaft flange (Figure 2, Item 1) and seat rear
housing assembly against cylinder block (Figure 2, Item 8). Plastic sleeve (Figure 2, Item 3) will be forced out
of crankshaft rear seal. Discard plastic sleeve.
3. Install two screws (Figure 2, Item 5) in outer holes on rear housing assembly (Figure 2, Item 2). Tighten screws
to 11 lb-ft (15 Nm).
4. Install two screws (Figure 2, Item 4) in upper holes on rear housing assembly (Figure 2, Item 2). Tighten
screws to 16 lb-ft (22 Nm).
5. Unscrew two screws (Figure 2, Item 5) one complete turn.
