VALVE LASH ADJUSTMENT

C AU T I O N
Intake valves at cylinders 1, 2, and 4 must beadjusted with No.1 at top center position on
compression stroke.
Exhaust valves at cylinders 1, 3, and 5 mustbe adjusted with No.1 at top center position
Intake valves at cylinders 3, 5, and 6 must beadjusted with No. 6 at top center position on
compression stroke.
Exhaust valves at cylinders 2, 4, and 6 mustbe adjusted with No. 6 at top center position
1. Put No.1 cylinder at top center position on the compression stroke. Refer to Engine Mechanical Tests
Inspections, and Adjustments (WP 0023).
2. Adjust valve lash of intake valves at cylinders 1, 2, and 4. Adjust valve lash of exhaust valves at cylinders 1, 3,
and 5.
3. Lightly tap top of rocker arms (Figure 4, Item 1) with soft mallet.
4. Adjust valve lash of intake valves setting to 0.015 0.003 in (0.38 0.08 mm).

Steps a - g will adjust one intake valve. Follow steps a - g to adjust additional intake
valves.
(a) Place feeler gage between rocker arm (Figure 4, Item 1) and valve bridge (Figure 4, Item 4).
(b) Loosen nut (Figure 4, Item 2) on rocker arm adjustment screw (Figure 4, Item 3).
(c) Continued to slide feeler gage between rocker arm (Figure 4, Item 1) and valve bridge (Figure 4,
Item 4).
(d) Turn rocker arm adjustment screw (Figure 4, Item 3) until slight drag is felt on feeler gage.
(e) Remove feeler gage between rocker arm (Figure 4, Item 1) and valve bridge (Figure 4, Item 4).
(f) Hold rocker arm adjustment screw (Figure 4, Item 3) in this position.
(g) Tighten nut (Figure 4, Item 2) on rocker arm adjustment screw (Figure 4, Item 3). Tighten nut to
22 lb-ft (30 Nm).
5. Adjust valve lash of exhaust valves setting to 0.025 0.003 in (0.64 0.08 mm).

Steps a - g will adjust one exhaust valve. Follow steps a - g to adjust additional exhaust
valves.
(a) Place feeler gage between rocker arm (Figure 4, Item 1) and valve bridge (Figure 4, Item 4).
(b) Loosen nut (Figure 4, Item 2) on rocker arm adjustment screw (Figure 4, Item 3).
(c) Continued to slide feeler gage between rocker arm (Figure 4, Item 1) and valve bridge (Figure 4,
Item 4).
(d) Turn rocker arm adjustment screw (Figure 4, Item 3) until slight drag is felt on feeler gage.
(e) Remove feeler gage between rocker arm (Figure 4, Item 1) and valve bridge (Figure 4, Item 4).
