CHARGE ACCUMULATOR
000126
WARN I N G
Dry nitrogen is the only gas approved for use in accumulator. Any other gas may cause
failure of accumulator or injury to personnel.
N OT E
A new accumulator should be charged before installation. Do not charge accumulator that
is connected to powertrain system. Pressure from the powertrain oil may interfere with
charging procedure.
1. Connect nitrogen charging kit regulator fitting (Figure 6, Item 4) to nitrogen cylinder.
2. Make sure that needle valve (Figure 6, Item 1) is closed and then open valve of nitrogen cylinder.
3. Remove two bolts (Figure 6, Item 6) and protective strap (Figure 6, Item 7) from accumulator
(Figure 6, Item 9).
4. Remove protective cap (Figure 6, Item 5) from valve (Figure 6, Item 8).
5. Install nitrogen chuck (Figure 6, Item 12) on valve (Figure 6, Item 8).
6. Open valve handle on nitrogen chuck (Figure 6, Item 12).
7. Adjust screw (Figure 6, Item 11) on regulator (Figure 6, Item 10) until pressure gauge (Figure 6, Item 3) reads
245-265 psi (1690-1827 kPa) when oil temperature is 70F (20C).
8. Open needle valve (Figure 6, Item 1) and allow nitrogen to flow into accumulator (Figure 6, Item 9).
9. When pressure on pressure gauge (Figure 6, Item 2) matches pressure on pressure gauge (Figure 6, Item 3),
close screw (Figure 6, Item 11) on regulator (Figure 6, Item 10).
10. Wait 60 seconds to ensure that pressure remains stable. If pressure decreases, repeat steps 7 through 9 until
pressure remains stable.
11. Close valve on nitrogen cylinder.
12. Close needle valve (Figure 6, Item 1) and valve on nitrogen charging chuck (Figure 6, Item 12).
13. Remove nitrogen charging chuck (Figure 6, Item 12) from valve (Figure 6, Item 8) on accumulator
(Figure 6, Item 9)
14. Install protective cap (Figure 6, Item 5) on valve (Figure 6, Item 8).
15. Install protective strap (Figure 6, Item 7) and two bolts (Figure 6, Item 6) on accumulator (Figure 6, Item 9).
16. Remove nitrogen charging kit regulator fitting (Figure 6, Item 4) from nitrogen cylinder.
