Test Step 1. Measure Voltage of Battery

Do not measure voltage across cable post clamps.
1. Release latch (Figure 1, Item 1) and open battery box door (Figure 1, Item 2) on machine.
2. Lift protective boot (Figure 1, Item 6) from negative battery terminal (Figure 1, Item 5).
3. Lift protective boot (Figure 1, Item 4) from positive battery terminal (Figure 1, Item 3).
4. Using a digital multimeter, measure voltage between the positive (Figure 1, Item 3) and negative (Figure 1,
Item 5) battery posts while cranking engine or attempting to crank engine.
a. If voltage is 17 to 26 volts, proceed to Test Step 2.
b. If battery voltage is less than 17 volts, continue diagnostics.
