There will be spring tension on the cap.
b. Remove two bolts (Figure 5, Item 9), washers (Figure 5, Item 10), cap (Figure 5, Item 8), and O-ring
(Figure 5, Item 12) from torque converter relief valve (Figure 5, Item 1). Discard O-ring.
N OT E
One shim changes pressure setting by 2.4 psi (16.5 kPa). Adding shims will raise
pressure. Removing shims will lower pressure.
Note number of shims removed from valve.
c.
Remove valve (Figure 5, Item 7), shims (Figure 5, Item 11), spring (Figure 5, Item 6), and spring (Figure 5,
Item 5) from torque converter relief valve (Figure 5, Item 1).
d. If pressure is low, shims (Figure 5, Item 11) must be added.
e. If pressure is high, shims (Figure 5, Item 11) must be taken out.

Install shims as needed for proper torque converter outlet pressure.

Install spring (Figure 5, Item 5), spring (Figure 5, Item 6), shims (Figure 5, Item 11), and valve (Figure 5,
Item 7) on torque converter relief valve (Figure 5, Item 1).
g. Install new O-ring (Figure 5, Item 12), cap (Figure 5, Item 8), two washers (Figure 5, Item 10), and bolts
(Figure 5, Item 9) on torque converter relief valve (Figure 5, Item 1).
N OT E
Install electrical connections as noted during removal.
h. Connect connector (Figure 5, Item 4) and install new tiedown strap (Figure 5, Item 3) on harness (Figure 5,
Item 2).
