COOLING SYSTEM INSPECTION CONTINUED
Figure 1. Cooling Module.
0027
7. Inspect radiator guard and grill for looseness and restrictions (WP 0179).
8. Inspect water pump, cylinder head, and engine block for signs of Class III leakage (WP 0024).
9. Inspect engine cooling system for air or combustion gases:
a. If cylinder head, cylinder head gasket, or engine block are suspected, turn engine off and allow engine to
completely cool.
WARN I N G
Personal injury can result from hot coolant, steam, and alkali. Allow engine and coolant to
cool before slowly removing filler cap to relieve cooling system pressure. Engine must be
stopped and radiator cap cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Failure to follow this
warning may result in injury or death to personnel.
b. Slowly remove cooling system cap, start engine, and observe cooling system for bubbles as engine
warms. If bubbles are present in coolant, then combustion gases may be entering the engine cooling
system. Inspect cylinder head for flatness (WP 0024) and cracks (WP 0103). Inspect cylinder head gasket
for leakage (WP 0103). Inspect engine block for Class III leaks and cracks. If condition is found, replace
engine (WP 0051).
